Muffler delete

Post by LachlanJ »

Hey guys,
Just trying to get somebodies experience with a muffler delete on a 3.2L. Do you get much trouble with the police, do you notice any fuel gains? And how much louder is it?
Thanks guys!

Did it to my PX1 maybe 8 months ago, a little bit louder but nothing like a proper sports exhaust, the turbo whistle when you let off the accelerator is sort of loud. No noticeable difference in fuel economy.

Same, couple years ago on my px1. Your driving style will attract more attention than the exhaust note, it’s not super loud. And the highway note is good IMO.
Shorter pipe , less restriction, , save 10 kg, no muffler = improvement in my book
Hope that helps

Unbolt the exhaust and take it for a spin around the block, you'll work out whether you like it or not pretty quickly.
Can be done in around halfa.

Sorry to hijack a thread guys, but I as thinking of doing the same. You can pick up a muffler delete pipe off eBay for less than $100. Does it offer much of a difference in performance and sound? Cheers

G'day mate,

I've done it 3 different ways since owning my bus and happiest with a proper 3" exhaust, no muffler and hi-flow cat from Playtime Autoparts.

Vid under load and high revs with stock exhaust, just muffler removed and no delete pipe

Hey mate,

Wow - thanks for that! I was looking at the playtime stuff earlier actually. Quite a few options to choose from on the 3" set. I definitely want to have a cat, but the muffler needs to go... Does the playtime set automatically include a high flow cat as the options? Just says "with cat and diff pipe" or "with cat and pipe only" etc. Would probably go with cat and pipe only.

Cheers

No worries at all.

Yeah just go Cat and pipe (no muffler). It's automatically a hi-flow cat that comes with it.
I've just trimmed the tip of mine back to the rear hanger to stop it fouling on rocks etc.
